WI Lawmakers Approve Bill Limiting Court Injunctions Against State Laws

Orders by trial judges blocking state laws could be quickly overturned by lawyers—at least for a time—under a bill the Assembly preliminarily approved Tuesday.

Also Tuesday, the Assembly passed a measure to tighten ethics rules for employees at the state's job-creation agency and gave initial support for rewriting landlord-tenant laws.

The court limits were advanced by Republicans in response to a series of court rulings that stalled some of their signature achievements over the last two years.

Democrats blocked a final vote on the measure until June. If approved then, as expected, it would go to the Senate, which like the Assembly, is controlled by Republicans.
