Toyota Motor's pick of auto industry veteran Mark Hogan as the first American outsider to sit on the company board of directors is almost unbelievably radical for the big automaker, part of a jaw-dropping executive shuffle announced Wednesday that puts more responsibility in Americans' hands.
It also should streamline operations and decision-making in what's been a slow-moving company.
"Radical surgery on our organization," says Toyota's U.S. spokesman Mike Michels.
