As all the world knows, former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher has died. I mourn the passing of one of the more formidable fighters against the destructive policies embodied in socialism and communism. I only got to see Thatcher speak once, at the celebration of Ronald Reagan's 83rd birthday at the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C. in 1994. Flawed as all politicians are flawed, they are nevertheless both true heroes in the victory over the great evil of communism. In appreciation, I include a selection of Thatcher quotations below:
There can be no liberty unless there is economic liberty. There is no such thing as society: there are individual men and women, and there are families. To cure the British disease with socialism was like trying to cure leukaemia with leeches. To me, consensus seems to be the process of abandoning all beliefs, principles, values and policies. So it is something in which no one believes and to which no one objects. Nothing is more obstinate than a fashionable consensus. There are still people in my party who believe in consensus politics. I regard them as Quislings, as traitors… I mean it. If my critics saw me walking over the Thames they would say it was because I couldn't swim.
It can be truly said of Thatcher that the world will not see her like again. RIP.
