Emails obtained by a defense attorney indicate prosecutors have been successfully pressuring the Michigan State Police Forensics Division to falsely rule the THC found in hash oils and edible marijuana products as "origin unknown." That allows prosecutors to charge users with possession of synthetic marijuana, a felony. By contrast, possession of medical marijuana is legal and possession of marijuana by someone who is not a licensed medical marijuana user is just a misdemeanor.
