The Government Tries to Plug a Leak

Forty-two years ago today, as The New York Times was aggravating the government by publishing the Pentagon Papers, President Richard Nixon, Attorney General John Mitchell, and National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger discussed how to deal with the newspaper:


The most Nixonian moment: "Look, as far as the Times is concerned, hell, they're our enemies and I think we just ought to do it."
