The Harris County Sheriff's Office was investigating Friday after a K-9 unit dog that was left in a deputy's patrol car died of heat exhaustion.
Sheriff's spokesman Alan Bernstein said the deputy was placed on administrative leave until the internal affairs investigation is finished.
