Six of seven Detroit building inspectors charged with taking bribes on the job could be arraigned as early as Friday after state and federal officials announced the results of a corruption investigation into the city department that oversees inspections of construction plans and building codes to ensure the safety of homes and businesses.

Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette said the inspectors took payola for conducted phony building inspections or looking the other way at code violations. Schuette said the inspectors were charged with a total of 17 offenses ranging from one-year misdemeanors to 10-year felonies.
