Settlement with Newark Police Over Illegal Camera Arrest Includes New Camera Polices

n the wake of a 2010 incident where a young girl was illegally detained and placed in handcuffs by police officers because she was filming them in a public place, the Newark Police Departmenthas issued new policiesaimed at protecting citizen's rights to record police activity, according to details of a settlement made public today.

Khaliah Fitchette, 19, will receive an undisclosed sum for damages suffered after police arrested her and threatened to charge the girl with obstruction of justice after she filmed two police officers aiding a man on a bus in March of 2010, the American Civil Liberties Union said in a statement released Monday.http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2012/11/newark_police_settle_case_with.html
