School District Forces Judge Change in Parent Trigger Suit

A group of parents seeking to take control of their kids' failing school will have to wait a little longer, as the case moves from one superior court judge to another.

On Thursday, the Desert Trails Parent Union had planned to ask a Victorville Superior Court judge to order the Adelanto Elementary School District to comply with a ruling he had issued this summer. The parents—the first group to successfully use California's 2010 "parent trigger" law, that allows parents to force sweeping changes at a school if they can collect signatures from more than 50 percent of parents—complain the district is continuing in its attempts to subvert its legal mandate.
