Rescuers Struggling to Save Dozens of Whales Stranded Near Everglade National Park

The fate of dozens of whales stranded off the Everglade National Park remained cloudy Thursday as rescuers struggled to coax them into deeper water.

Six pilot whales have died and four were euthanized since the rescue efforts began Wednesday off the Florida park's western shore on the Gulf of Mexico. Dozens of whales were initially reported stranded in about 3 feet of water on Tuesday afternoon at Highland Beach, about 20 miles from where the whales usually congregate.
