Push Grows to Bypass Electoral College by 2016

Tuesday may be the last election where the Electoral College can snatch victory from the winner of the popular vote.

Four times, the popular vote winner did not take the White House, including 2000 when Al Gore received a half million more votes than George W. Bush. If 60,000 more Ohio votes had favored John Kerry instead of Bush in 2004, Kerry could have won the Electoral College despite Bush's 3 million-vote advantage nationwide.
