The city of Detroit recently filed for bankruptcy, but Americans don't think taxpayers should be stuck footing the bill. The latest Reason-Rupe poll finds 65 percent of Americans do not think federal taxpayer money should be used to bail out Detroit.
Even majorities of public sector workers (56 percent) and Democrats (53 percent) are against bailing out Detroit.
Overall, less than a third of Americans (31 percent) think federal taxpayer money should go to bail out Detroit.
Democrats are twice as likely as Republicans to favor a bailout, 41 to 21 percent. Forty-one percent of public sector workers support a bailout for Detroit.
