Pentagon: US Should Leave 10,000 Troops in Afghanistan or Pull Out Completely

WASHINGTON, Jan. 22 (UPI) — The U.S. Defense Department has proposed leaving 10,000 soldiers in Afghanistan or pulling out completely, officials tell the New York Times.

The United States currently has 37,500 troops in the country. A security agreement was negotiated last year with President Hamid Karzai that would allow some to remain, but Karzai has not yet signed it and is demanding changes.
