Parliamentarians in the Upper House of parliament on Wednesday condemned the killing of polio vaccination workers in Karachi and Peshawar and called for probing the matter besides giving compensation to victim families.
Although the matter was raised in a point of order, senators expressed concern over Tuesday's killing and demanded "proper investigation" into the matter. Like martyred of other forces, they said, compensation should also be given to families of slain polio workers.
"Unprecedented killings are a major setback for a campaign that international health officials consider vital to contain the crippling disease but some people with vested interests are opposing it," parliamentarians said.
