Opposition to War in Afghanistan Peaks

For the first time since 2001, more Americans think the war in Afghanistan was a mistake than believe it was a good idea, according to a new poll.

The Gallup survey on Wednesday found 49 percent of respondents saying the war was a mistake and 48 percent responding that it was not.

When the issue was first polled in November 2001, fewer than 10 percent of Americans thought the decision to send in armed forces after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks was a mistake. That was the highest approval rating for the action, which has seen a steady decline in support since then.
