Morsi's Detention Extended To Allow For Investigation Into Alleged Prison Escape

CAIRO, Oct. 13 (UPI) — A judge Sunday extended the detention of ousted Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi by 30 days to allow further investigation into his alleged escape from prison.

Morsi, seven senior leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood and other Islamist leaders are accused of killing and torturing protesters who demonstrated outside the presidential palace in Cairo.

Their trial is scheduled for Nov. 4.

Morsi, 62, has been held at a secret location since his ouster July 3 after demonstrations against his rule. He also faces charges related to his escape from prison during the 2011 revolution that toppled his predecessor, Hosni Mubarak.
