A magnitude 6.9 earthquake hit off the coast of California, near Ferndale, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center does not expect it to cause any tsunamis. At least one after shock above magnitude 5 is expected, and there's a 5 to 10 percent chance the quake will be followed by a stronger one in the next week.
