Writer's picture: OurStudioOurStudio

This 118-carat egg-sized jewel, the largest diamond ever sold at auction, fetched $30.6 million at Sotheby's in Hong Kong yesterday, or $259,322 per carat.

That was the highest price ever obtained for a white diamond, a record that was only set this May when another D color, flawless diamond, a 101-carat pear-shaped stone, sold at Christie's in Geneva for $26.7 million, or $254,400 per carat.
