CONCERN is growing in Indonesia over reports that Australia and the US have been eavesdropping on the nation's communications.

The head of the Indonesian parliament's defence and foreign relations commission, Mahfud Siddiq, has urged his government to ensure Australian and US electronic spying has not damaged his country's national interest.

"If (the surveillance) has happened, that is a bad signal, especially if it is shown that the wire-tapping was for political interference in Indonesia's domestic politics," Mr Mahfud told The Weekend Australian.
