State Rep. Derrick Smith defended his re-election to the 10th District at a news conference this morning, chiding those who say he only received the votes because he's a Democrat.
He said that point of view is "misinformed and insulting to the people of the district that voted for me."
"I was elected because I went out and talked to the people… I have the relationship with the constituents of the district," Smith said.
In August, Smith became the first lawmaker tossed out of the Illinois House in more than 100 years, before he was re-elected on Tuesday in his West Side district.
