Girl Taken from Roma Couple Ordered Returned in Ireland

An Irish court has been ordered that a blonde, blue-eyed girl who was taken from a Roma family should be returned, after DNA tests proved that she was the parents' daughter

The seven-year-old was removed from her home in a Dublin suburb and placed in temporary care on Monday after police received a tip-off from a neighbour concerned that she bore no resemblance to her siblings.

The neighbour had seen reports of a blonde girl who was found living with a Roma couple in Greece who were not her parents.

The Irish child's parents, who are in their thirties, produced a birth certificate and passport for their child, but neither was accepted as conclusive proof of her identity and police could find no relevant records at the hospital where she was born.
