Felonious NH Lawmaker Ineligible To Take Office

CONCORD — A convicted felon serving a suspended sentence is ineligible to serve in the House of Representatives under New Hampshire law.

Democrat Stacie Laughton was elected as one of three Representatives for Nashua's Ward 4, coming in third among three Democrats and ahead of the two Republicans on the ballot.

Last week, the Laconia Daily Sun and Nashua Telegraph reported that Laughton pleaded guilty in 2008 on three charges of credit card fraud. The Telegraph reports that she was sentenced to 71/2 to 15 years for conspiracy to commit credit card fraud, and 31/2 to 7 years for falsifying physical evidence.
