Utah officials are scrambling Monday to halt same-sex marriages as hundreds of gay couples lined up at local clerks' offices to wed.

Acting state Attorney General Brian Tarbet filed an emergency request Monday with a federal appeals court for a temporary stay to stop licenses from being issued.
