Endeavor Crawls Its Way Through Los Angeles

Writer: OurStudioOurStudio

The space shuttle Endeavour started its slow trip to the California Science Center this morning, pulling out of Los Angeles International Airport in the dark of night.

Perched atop a special transporter, the 122-foot-long retired orbiter hit public streets after 2 a.m. and inched toward Westchester. Its 2-mph journey through Los Angeles and Inglewood isn't expected to wrap up until 9 p.m. Saturday, when the Endeavour should finally reach the California Science Center in Exposition Park.

"It was unbelievable when it flew in and it is even more unbelievable to see it on L.A. streets," said Ken Phillips, aerospace curator at the California Science Center.
