The average Detroit homeowner's property tax bill will be slashed between 5% and 20% this summer, Mayor Mike Duggan's office announced today.
The city's property assessment and taxation process must be overhauled because homes across Detroit are over-assessed, Duggan's office said in a news release.
A recent review of home sales data between Oct. 2011 and Sept. 2013 showed widespread over-assessment of home values in Detroit.
