Dallas Independent School District Planning Pilot Program For 3-Year High School Diploma

A plan is underway to create a three-year high school diploma in Dallas ISD.

It would serve two purposes: Students could get a jump-start on their college education and career. And DISD would no longer lose state funding when a student graduates early. The money that would have been received for the fourth year would be transferred to the full-day prekindergarten program.

Preparations are underway for a pilot program on some campuses during the 2014-15 school year, said Ann Smisko, DISD's academic chief. The plan is in the early stages, and it's not certain how many high schools would be part of the initial rollout.
