HARTFORD—Gov. Dannel P. Malloy says he represented the interests of Connecticut when he joined the nation's political and entertainment elite last weekend at the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner as a guest of People Magazine.
Now, under pressure from minority Republicans, he's seeking an opinion from state ethics officials on his high-profile partying and expense-paid stay at the Hilton.
Senate Minority Leader John McKinney charged Wednesday that the governor's trip was an illegal lobbying effort and that Malloy violated state ethics regulations. He called for the governor to return the value of the meals, parties and hotel room, estimated at about $1,000.
