The Court of Cassation on December 23 will mull a challenge filed by former president Hosni Mubarak and his interior minister Habib el-Adli against a life sentence ruling.

The pair was sentenced by a Cairo criminal court to life imprisonment over complicity in killing peaceful protesters during the revolution.

The defense teams of Mubarak and Adli had contested the ruling issued on June 2 by the Cairo Criminal Court.

Six former police commanders were acquitted in the case.
