The powerful Club for Growth PAC on Tuesday delivered a blow to Texas tea partiers, pledging in a statement to stay out of the Lone Star State's Senate primary and defending incumbent Sen. John Cornyn.

The statement from the conservative group — which often plays in primaries — came a day after Cornyn (R-Texas) drew an unexpected but high-profile primary challenge from firebrand conservative Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Texas).
