Chinese Communist Party officials in the Yugan county of Jiangxi province have been visiting poor Christians in their homes, urging them to take down crosses and paintings of Jesus and replace them with photos of President Xi Jinping. Some Christians say party officials told them they would not be eligible for government help unless they removed Christian symbols. Party officials deny the claim.
