Benjamin C. Bradlee, the Washington Post's former executive editor who oversaw the Watergate coverage that helped end the presidency of Richard Nixon, will be awarded the highest civilian honor by President Obama later this year, the White House said.
Obama will present the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Bradlee, 91, who remains a vice president at large at the newspaper, in a ceremony at the White House. Former president Bill Clinton, talk show icon Oprah Winfrey and late astronaut Sally Ride also will be among the 14 honorees this year.
