Astronaut Scott Carpenter Dead at 88

Scott Carpenter, the second American to orbit the Earth and one of the last two surviving Mercury 7 astronauts, has died.

His wife, Patty Barrett, said Mr Carpenter, 88, died in a Denver hospice of complications from a stroke he suffered in September.
