Amish Leader Convicted of Hate-Crime Loses Bid for Release

The leader of 16 Amish men and women found guilty of hate crimes for cutting the hair and beards of fellow members of their faith has lost another request to be released from prison.

A three-judge panel of the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati on Wednesday rejected a request from Samuel Mullet Sr. to be released while he appeals.

The judges found that Mullet hasn't proven he's not a threat to his Amish community in eastern Ohio and that his appeal is unlikely to succeed.
