Alaska's Lt. Gov. to Run for Senate

Alaska Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell formally jumped into the 2014 race for U.S. Senate, hoping to take on Democratic incumbent Mark Begich.

"Alaskans are very concerned about what is, or is not, happening in Washington, D.C. So am I," said Treadwell, who has been exploring the race since November. "This intense exploratory effort has convinced me that I have the support necessary to build a winning campaign."

Treadwell, however, needs to get past what could be a crowded Republican field to get a shot at Begich, considered one of the vulnerable Democrats up for re-election next year.
